Good morning. It’s まさきん.
With Rakuten Points, how much extra you earn depends on how you use them. Poitoku (ポイ得), a campaign that raises your reward rate when you pay with points, is a typical example.
That said, the official page has so much information that it’s easy to get lost. The conditions differ from service to service, too, so the big picture can be hard to grasp. So this time, I’ve pulled all four eligible services together into a single article.
The eligible services and periods are reviewed every month. This article is based on the official pages as of October 9, 2026. Before you join, be sure to check the latest conditions on the official page.
Poitoku raises the reward rate on the portion you pay with points. Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Travel, and Rakuten Beauty get a 2x reward rate, and Rakuten Mobile gets a 3x reward rate if it’s your first time. Entry is required, and the bonus arrives as time-limited points.
What is Poitoku?
Poitoku is a campaign that raises your reward rate when you use Rakuten Points. When you use points to pay for an eligible service, bonus points are added on top of the portion you paid with points.
The official page is titled “楽天ポイントは使う場所を選ぶともっともらえる” (Choose where you use your Rakuten Points and get more). The idea is that points aren’t only about collecting them; where you use them makes a difference, too. I’ve also covered the idea that your reward rate changes with where you use points in another article.
The campaign covers these four services:
- Rakuten Ichiba (shopping)
- Rakuten Mobile (monthly fees)
- Rakuten Travel (domestic stays)
- Rakuten Beauty (online salon bookings)
Each month has its own eligible period, and the campaign is held again every month. You only need to enter once, and there’s no need to re-enter.
The four services at a glance
First, the big picture. I’ve put the official information for October 2026 into a table. In the table, I’ve left “Rakuten” out of the service names.
| Service | Reward rate | Bonus cap |
|---|---|---|
| Ichiba | 2x | 1,500 points per month |
| Mobile (first time) | 3x | 90 points per month |
| Mobile (second time onward) | 2x | 10 points per month |
| Travel | 2x | None |
| Beauty | 2x | None |
The 2x breaks down into 1% regular points plus 1% bonus points. Only Rakuten Mobile’s first-time 3x comes with a 2% bonus.
The bonus caps vary quite a bit by service. Travel and Beauty have no cap on the bonus itself. Rakuten Mobile, on the other hand, is limited to 90 or 10 points a month.
Common rules to know first
Some rules apply to every service. Let’s go over them first.
Entry is required, and it can’t be withdrawn
You enter from Poitoku’s official page. Once is enough, and there’s no need to re-enter every month. However, purchases and bookings made before you enter aren’t eligible. That’s true even during the eligible period.
You can’t withdraw an entry. By applying, you’re treated as having agreed to the campaign notices. You’ll rest easier if you read the conditions once before pressing the button.
Bonuses arrive as time-limited points
The bonus portion is granted as time-limited points. They come with an expiration date, so you’ll want to take care not to forget to use them.
Even if you use your bonus points before they expire, they won’t be returned if a cancellation or an amount correction happens after the expiration date. This is the same for every service.
Payments with Rakuten Pay balance aren’t eligible
What counts is the portion you pay with points. Payments with Rakuten Pay balance are explicitly listed as not eligible in the conditions sections for Ichiba, Mobile, and Travel. The Beauty conditions section doesn’t say so explicitly, but the boost promotions section lists them as not eligible. It’s safest to assume the same basic rule applies.
The type of points doesn’t matter
Both regular points and time-limited points qualify. If you use points for only part of a payment, that part is eligible.
Main cases that aren’t eligible
You’re not eligible in cases like these:
- If you started using the service or met the conditions before entering
- If you closed your Rakuten membership by the grant date
- If you canceled for your own reasons
- If the same person made multiple user registrations, or there was any fraud
Even if you couldn’t use the service because of maintenance or the like, the entry period isn’t extended.
Anything you use before entering isn’t eligible, even during the eligible period. The portion paid with Rakuten Pay balance is basically not eligible. If you cancel or don’t show up for your stay, you won’t get the bonus. Bonus points have a fairly short expiration, so you also need to take care not to forget to use them.
Poitoku on Rakuten Ichiba
Rakuten Ichiba is the most familiar of the four services. When you use points on a purchase, a boost is added on top of the amount you used.
Conditions and how the calculation works
After entering, you place an order using points during the eligible period. On top of your regular points, you get an extra 1 point for every 100 points you use.
In the official wording, the reward rate on the portion paid with points is 2x. Picture the regular 1% with a bonus 1% added on top. The calculation is based on the portion equivalent to the pre-tax amount. Shipping fees and gift-wrapping fees are not included.
Cap and grant timing
The cap on the added portion is 1,500 points per month. In terms of points used, that works out to 150,000 points.
For October 2026, the bonus is granted around December 15, and the expiration is January 31, 2027. There’s a gap of about 2 months between your purchase and the grant.
What is and isn’t eligible
- Regular purchases, subscription purchases, and hanpukai (periodic delivery plans) are eligible. For subscription purchases and hanpukai, only the first delivery counts.
- Rakuten Books and Rakuten Kobo are also eligible.
- Rakuten Furusato Nozei has, as a general rule, been excluded from point grants since October 1, 2025.
- Products from Rakuten 24 Express are generally not eligible. Some other shops are excluded, too.
- If multiple orders are judged to be for resale, no points are granted. Game consoles and game software are among the examples given.
- Orders that have been canceled by the time of the grant aren’t eligible.
Separately from Poitoku, there’s also a system of point multipliers that applies to your shopping. I’ve covered how it relates to Rakuten Mobile in the SPU article.
Poitoku on Rakuten Mobile
Rakuten Mobile works a little differently. Unlike the other three, it isn’t decided by the “shopping period” but by the “period for setting up point usage.”
There’s a separate article that looks at it from Rakuten Mobile’s point of view. Here, I’ll focus on the numbers and the flow.
The reward rate has two tiers
If you’re using points to pay your monthly fee for the first time, the reward rate on the portion paid with points becomes 3x. That breaks down into 1% regular plus a 2% bonus. From the second time onward, it’s 1% regular plus a 1% bonus, for 2x.
The official page says “Rakuten Mobile is the only one with a reward rate of up to 3x.” The 3x applies only the first time you use points toward your monthly fee.
Whether it counts as your “first time” is determined by your Rakuten ID. If you’ve ever used points toward your monthly fee, even once, you won’t qualify for the 3x. Payments with Rakuten Pay balance aren’t counted. Even if you have multiple lines under contract, the same Rakuten ID is treated the same way.
From setup to grant
- Enter Poitoku. The entry period runs from September 1 to October 31, 2026.
- In “支払い情報” (payment information) in my Rakuten Mobile, set how you want to use your points. Choose either “すべてのポイントを使う” (use all of your points) or “指定したポイント数を使う” (use a specified number of points).
- What you set between the 1st and the last day of each month is applied to the following month’s bill. Points are used automatically around the 11th of each month.
- The bonus points arrive around the 15th of the month after the month you paid with points.
For example, if you set it up during October, the points are applied to November’s bill. The bonus is granted around December 15.
Cap and expiration
The bonus cap is 90 points per month for first-timers and 10 points per month from the second time onward. The expiration is 3 weeks, counting the day the points are granted.
On the September page, the expiration was the end of the month after the grant date. For October, it’s 3 weeks, which is considerably shorter. It seems best to use the points soon after they arrive.
Charges that are and aren’t eligible
Eligible charges are monthly fees such as plan fees, call charges, and SMS. Some options, such as Hulu, DAZN, and data top-ups, are included as well. Charges for services that aren’t on the list are not eligible.
Monthly device installment charges aren’t eligible either.
Things to watch out for
- If you pay by automatic bank withdrawal, you can’t set up point usage.
- If you set only part of the bill to be paid with points, you also need to pay attention to how the rest is paid. If the card payment fails with an error, the points you set won’t be deducted.
- If you have unpaid charges, you’re not eligible for the bonus.
- With multiple lines, the reward rate is applied to the total amount of points used.
Rakuten Mobile’s monthly fee is a fixed cost you pay every month. Setting it up to be paid with points also gives your time-limited points another place to go. If you haven’t signed up yet, why not check the estimated charges first?
Clicking this opens the Rakuten login page. Once you log in, you’ll see the campaign details.
Poitoku on Rakuten Travel
The defining feature of Travel is that there’s no cap on the bonus. However, the conditions continue until you’ve completed your stay.
Conditions
After entering, you book a domestic stay using points during the booking period. You must then complete the stay. Day trips and day-use stays are also included.
There’s a condition on the stay period, too. Both the check-in date and the check-out date must fall within the eligible stay period. For October 2026, that period runs from October 9 to December 31.
Reward rate and cap
On the portion of the points you use that corresponds to the pre-tax amount, an extra 1% is added in time-limited points. Combined with the regular 1%, that’s 2%, in other words a 2x reward rate.
There’s no cap on the bonus itself. However, there is a limit on the points you can use in a month. It’s up to 100,000 points in total across all services where points can be used, and up to 500,000 points for Diamond members. The added portion is calculated within this range as well.
Grant timing and expiration
For October, the bonus is granted around March 15, 2027, and the expiration is August 31, 2027. Even if you book in October, the bonus doesn’t arrive until March of the following year.
Things to keep in mind
- If you choose to pay on-site and use points on-site, it isn’t eligible. Points need to be used when you pay for the online booking.
- Cancellations and no-shows without notice aren’t eligible.
- If a change to your booking moves the stay outside the eligible period, it isn’t eligible.
- A booking made outside the period doesn’t become eligible even if you have it changed to within the period by asking the property directly.
- Only bookings made with the Rakuten ID you entered with are eligible.
- It’s eligible even if the person who booked and the person staying are different. The points go to the booker’s Rakuten ID.
- Anything after the decimal point is rounded down.
Poitoku on Rakuten Beauty
Like Travel, Beauty has no cap on the bonus. The conditions continue until the treatment is completed.
Conditions
After entering, you use points when booking online during the booking period. You must then complete the treatment within the eligible visit period. For October 2026, the visit period runs from October 9 to December 31.
Reward rate and cap
On the portion of the points you use that corresponds to the pre-tax amount, 1 point is added for every 100 yen. Combined with the regular 1%, that’s a 2x reward rate.
There’s no cap on the bonus. However, as with Travel, the monthly limit on the points you can use comes into play. It’s up to 100,000 points, or up to 500,000 points for Diamond members.
Grant timing and expiration
For October, the bonus is granted around March 15, 2027, and the expiration is April 30, 2027. The grant date is the same as Travel’s, but the expiration is on the shorter side.
Things to watch out for
- Whether you use points, and how many, can’t be changed after you book. If you want to change them, cancel the booking and book again.
- When you use only some of your points, it’s in units of 100 points.
- Time-limited points are used before regular points. If you have several, the ones that expire soonest are used first.
- Even if the treatment takes place after your time-limited points expire, you can use them as long as you make the booking before they expire. However, if they’ve already expired by the time you cancel, they aren’t returned.
- Using points when paying on-site isn’t eligible.
- Some salons don’t accept online bookings.
How periods are judged differs by service
I think the easiest place to trip up with Poitoku is how the periods are judged, because what each service uses as its basis is different.
- Rakuten Ichiba: Judged by the date and time you place your order. For October 2026, it runs from 0:00 on October 9 to 23:59 on October 20.
- Rakuten Travel: Judged by the date and time of your booking and the date of your stay. Bookings run from October 9 to October 20. Stays run from October 9 to December 31.
- Rakuten Beauty: Judged by the date and time of your booking and the date you complete the treatment. Bookings run from October 9 to October 20. Visits run from October 9 to December 31.
- Rakuten Mobile: Judged by the month in which you set up point usage. For October 2026, setup runs from October 1 to October 31.
For Travel and Beauty, you have to satisfy both periods. Even if your booking is within the period, you’re not eligible if the stay or treatment falls outside it.
For Rakuten Mobile, you become eligible only once the points are applied to the bill for the month after you set them up. Setting them up alone doesn’t make you eligible yet.
The start date isn’t always the same every month. The shopping and booking periods for Rakuten Ichiba, Travel, and Beauty have moved around like this:
| Month | Shopping and booking period |
|---|---|
| July | July 10, 10:00 to July 20, 9:59 |
| August | August 10, 10:00 to August 20, 23:59 |
| September | September 4, 20:00 to September 20, 23:59 |
| October | October 9, 0:00 to October 20, 23:59 |
The banner on the official page said “10th to 20th,” and for October it added “This month, the 9th (Fri) too.” Both the start date and the start time need to be checked every month.
Comparing grant timing and expiration
Bonus points don’t arrive right away. The expiration once they do arrive also varies a lot by service.
| Service | Expected grant timing | Bonus points expiration |
|---|---|---|
| Ichiba | Around December 15, 2026 | January 31, 2027 |
| Mobile | Around the 15th of the month after you paid | 3 weeks, counting the grant date |
| Travel | Around March 15, 2027 | August 31, 2027 |
| Beauty | Around March 15, 2027 | April 30, 2027 |
The time from grant to expiration differs a lot by service. Travel gives you about 5 and a half months. Ichiba and Beauty give you about 1 and a half months. Rakuten Mobile gives you only 3 weeks.
For Rakuten Ichiba, the grant comes around the 15th of the second month after the month you shopped. For example, July’s was September 15, and September’s was November 15. For Travel and Beauty, the grant comes later because the stay and visit periods are longer.
Forgetting to use them is the biggest waste. I recommend putting the grant dates and expiration dates in your calendar.
How much extra do you actually get?
Even once you understand the mechanism, it’s hard to get a feel for the amounts. I worked out the bonus points you’d get from using 3,000 points.
| Service | Bonus when you use 3,000 points |
|---|---|
| Ichiba | 30 points (3,000 ÷ 100) |
| Travel | 30 points (3,000 × 1%) |
| Beauty | 30 points (3,000 × 1%) |
| Mobile (first time) | 60 points (3,000 × 2%) |
| Mobile (second time onward) | 10 points (3,000 × 1% = 30, capped at 10) |
The added portion is around 1% of the points you use. Even for people who use a lot of points, the amount doesn’t get big. For example, even if you use 100,000 points, Rakuten Ichiba gives you 1,000 points.
The calculation is based on the portion equivalent to the pre-tax amount, so the actual figures may differ slightly. Please treat these as a rough guide.
So I wouldn’t recommend increasing your shopping just for Poitoku. It’s a boost added to points you were already going to use. Personally, I think that’s just about the right distance to keep.
How to join
It’s a 4-step process.
- Log in with your Rakuten ID and enter from Poitoku’s official page.
- Check the eligible period. The next period is announced on the official page after the current one ends.
- For each service, set it up to use points and pay.
- Check the granted points in your point history on Rakuten PointClub.
Here’s how to use points for each service:
- Rakuten Ichiba: At checkout, choose either “一部のポイントを使う” (use some of your points) or “すべてのポイントを使う” (use all of your points). After choosing, tap “変更する” (change).
- Rakuten Travel: On the payment screen, enter the number of points to use in the “ポイント利用” (point usage) field and tap “決定” (confirm).
- Rakuten Beauty: Enter the number of points to use in the “ポイント利用” (point usage) field on the booking confirmation screen.
- Rakuten Mobile: In “支払い情報” (payment information) in my Rakuten Mobile, choose how to use your points. After choosing, tap “変更する” (change).
Here’s what to check before you start. Have you entered? Have you checked the start date and time of the eligible period? Is your payment set to points rather than Rakuten Pay balance? For Travel and Beauty, are you using points when paying for the online booking? It’s a good idea to put the grant date and expiration date in your calendar.
Past boost promotions
On top of the usual rates, Poitoku sometimes comes with boost promotions. Here are two that ran in 2026.
Plus 1x reward rate for the first 3 days
From 10:00 on August 10, 2026 to 9:59 on August 13, an extra 1x was added to Poitoku’s reward rate. For Rakuten Mobile only, it ran until 23:59 on August 13. Entering Poitoku was enough, and no separate entry was needed. The cap was 1,500 points, and the grant is scheduled for around January 15, 2027.
A lottery to win back all the points you used
In May and June 2026, there was a promotion where you could win, by lottery, the full amount of the points you used with Poitoku. The cap was 10,000 points, and each person could win only once.
Both of these promotions have already ended. There’s no guarantee that the same thing will run again. The official page says that similar promotions with different conditions may be run.
Who it suits and who it doesn’t
I don’t think Poitoku is a good deal for everyone in the same way.
It suits people who were already planning to use their points. For example, people who have time-limited points close to expiring. The same goes for people who already have a trip or a salon appointment lined up. People who want to set up their monthly phone bill to be paid with points might also be a good match.
On the other hand, if you’re likely to increase your shopping or bookings just for Poitoku, I think it’s fine to be cautious, because the added portion is only around 1% of the points you use. It’s also a harder fit for people who don’t like waiting several months for the bonus, or who mainly pay on-site. If you pay for Rakuten Mobile by automatic bank withdrawal, you’ll first need to change your payment method.
Frequently asked questions
Q. When does Poitoku start and end?
The period is announced on the official page every month. For October 2026, it runs from 0:00 on October 9 to 23:59 on October 20. This applies to shopping on Rakuten Ichiba and to bookings on Travel and Beauty. For Rakuten Mobile, point usage setup runs from October 1 to October 31.
Q. Do I have to enter every month?
No, once is enough, and there’s no need to re-enter. However, anything you use before entering isn’t eligible. You also can’t withdraw an entry, so I think it’s best to read the conditions before you go ahead.
Q. What kind of points do I need to use, and how do I pay, to be eligible?
Both regular points and time-limited points are eligible. Even if you pay with points for only part of the amount, that part is eligible. However, payments with Rakuten Pay balance are basically not eligible.
Q. When do the bonus points arrive?
It differs by service. For October 2026, Rakuten Ichiba is around December 15. Travel and Beauty are around March 15 of the following year. Rakuten Mobile is around the 15th of the month after the month you paid with points. The expirations are on the short side, too, so I recommend making a note of the grant dates.
Q. Whose Rakuten ID should I use to book a family trip?
You need to book with the Rakuten ID you entered with. It’s eligible even if the person who booked and the person using it are different, and the points go to the booker’s Rakuten ID. This rule is the same for Travel and Beauty.
Q. Is Rakuten Furusato Nozei eligible?
Since October 1, 2025, Rakuten Furusato Nozei has, as a general rule, been excluded from Rakuten Points grants. So I think it’s safest to assume you won’t get the Poitoku bonus either.
Q. Can I use Rakuten Mobile’s 3x as many times as I want?
The 3x applies only the first time you use points toward your monthly fee. From the second time onward, you get the 2x bonus. However, the cap is a modest 10 points a month.
Q. What happens to the bonus if I cancel?
Orders and bookings that have been canceled by the time of the grant aren’t eligible. For Travel, no-shows and changes that move the stay outside the period are also not eligible. Before you change a booking, it’s a good idea to check the conditions first.

Summary
Poitoku is a system that gives you a boost when you choose where to use your points. Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Travel, and Rakuten Beauty came with a 2x reward rate, and Rakuten Mobile came with a 3x reward rate if it was your first time.
That said, the boost isn’t big. It’s around 1% of the points you use, and some services have a cap. How the periods are judged, the grant dates, and the expiration of the bonus points also differ by service.
If you were already planning to use your points, I think it’s worth entering. On the other hand, it may be fine to be a little cautious about changing how you use your points just for the bonus.
Setting up your monthly phone bill to be paid with points is one way to use them. The conditions are reviewed every month, so take a look at the official page before you join.
