Comparing Rakuten Bank Account Opening Campaigns | Up to 35,000 Points in October, but What You Actually Get Depends on Your Balance

Good morning. This is まさきん.

Rakuten Bank’s campaigns have similar names and there are a lot of them. I found it hard to tell “which one can I actually apply for right now?” and “how much will I really get?”, so I lined up four of them in a single table.

※ Information as of the publication date of this article (October 22, 2026). Please check the official website for the latest terms.

POINT
  • Two campaigns are open right now: the “up to 35,000 points” campaign (applications through October 30) and the standing “1,000 points” campaign
  • The 35,000 points are the total of Bonus 1 (3,000), Bonus 2 (up to 30,000) and Bonus 3 (2,000)
  • You only reach the maximum if your average balance is 10 million yen or more
  • With an average balance of 500,000 yen, expect about 6,000 points in total; with 1 million yen, about 8,000 points
  • The August 25th anniversary campaign and the September 4,000-point campaign are closed. If you applied, you still need to claim your points

The short answer: two campaigns are open right now

To get straight to the point, there are two campaigns you can newly apply for right now. One is the “up to 35,000 points” campaign, open until 23:59 on October 30. The other is the standing “1,000 points” campaign, whose application window switches every month.

Which one suits you may depend on how much you deposit and how you keep your balance. If you can leave a good-sized amount in the account for about three months, the 35,000-point campaign tends to come out ahead. If you just want to try it with a small amount, the standing 1,000 points is the easy option.

If you already have a Rakuten Bank account, things change a little. Of the 35,000 points, the only part you can aim for is the 2,000 points of Bonus 3. I will go through that in a later section.

Comparing the four campaigns in one table

First, the big picture. I put what I could confirm on the official pages into a table. The status is as of October 22, 2026.

CampaignMaximumApplication periodMain conditionsStatus
Account opening & Rakuten Card conditions35,000 pointsOct 1 – Oct 30Lump-sum deposit of 60,000 yen or more, average balance, card payment setupOpen

Rakuten Super SALE tie-in4,000 pointsSep 4 – Sep 11Account opening and balance conditionClosed

The two closed campaigns no longer accept new applications. However, people who already applied still have a claim procedure to complete. It is easy to overlook, so I will give the dates later.

I have written separate articles on the details of each. See the 35,000 points in October, the August 25th anniversary, the September 4,000 points and the standing 1,000 points. This article sticks to the job of comparing them side by side.

What is inside the “up to 35,000 points” campaign (through October 30)

The official name is “Guaranteed up to 35,000 points! Rakuten Bank Account Opening & Rakuten Card Conditions Campaign.” The period is announced as 0:00 on October 1, 2026 to 23:59 on October 30, 2026. The bonuses are split into three parts.

Bonus 1: 3,000 points for opening an account and depositing 60,000 yen

You apply through the account-opening button on the dedicated page by October 30. On top of that, you need to deposit 60,000 yen or more in one go into the new account. The deposit deadline was 23:59 on November 30.

Deposits can be made at an ATM or by transfer from another bank. Transfers of salary, bonuses and dividends from other banks are included. On the other hand, deposits from affiliate or cashback sites are excluded. Deposits such as salary paid from Rakuten Bank itself are treated the same way.

Note that the total of several separate deposits does not count. Two deposits of 30,000 yen would not meet the condition. You can claim from 17:00 on January 4, 2027 to January 31, and the points expire on February 28, 2027.

Bonus 2: up to 30,000 points depending on your average balance

This applies to people who met the Bonus 1 conditions. It is determined by the average yen ordinary deposit balance from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027. The average balance is the sum of each day’s closing balance divided by the number of days.

Average balanceAdditional points
500,000 yen or more1,000
1 million yen or more3,000
3 million yen or more10,000
10 million yen or more30,000

You can claim from 17:00 on March 1, 2027 to March 31, and the points expire on April 30. Keep in mind that the claim comes much later than Bonus 1.

Bonus 3: 2,000 points for setting up Rakuten Card payments

This one is open even to people who already have an account. However, you need to enter the campaign. The entry period runs until October 30.

The condition is to newly set Rakuten Bank as the payment account for your Rakuten Card in Rakuten e-NAVI. In addition, your card charges on the first judgment date must be 40,000 yen or more per judgment. There were two judgment dates, October 27 and November 27. The setup period is announced as through November 10.

People who have used Rakuten Bank as a payment account in the past are not eligible. If you have several cards, the judgment uses the total of the cards whose payment account is Rakuten Bank. The points are scheduled to be awarded around the end of December 2026.

Calculating the points you get at each average balance

The figure “up to 35,000 points” catches the eye. But the amount you actually receive seems to vary quite a lot with your average balance. Based on the official condition table, I calculated the totals. This assumes you also achieve Bonus 1 and Bonus 3.

Average balanceBonus 1Bonus 2Bonus 3Total
Under 500,000 yen3,00002,0005,000
500,000 yen3,0001,0002,0006,000
1 million yen3,0003,0002,0008,000
3 million yen3,00010,0002,00015,000
10 million yen3,00030,0002,00035,000

If you skip the card setup, subtract 2,000 points from the total. So for an ordinary household, something around 5,000 to 8,000 points may be a realistic guide.

Personally, I felt the gap between 3 million yen and 10 million yen is large. If you do not reach 10 million yen, you do not even get half of the maximum. It seems better not to judge by the “maximum” figure alone.

Turning the balance bonus into an interest rate

Bonus 2 can be thought of as a thank-you for keeping money in the account. So I converted it into an annual rate. The judgment period is 92 days, from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027.

The regular ordinary deposit rate as of October 1, 2026 is announced as 0.40% per year (0.318% per year after tax). I lined up the interest you would earn by keeping money for 92 days at this rate next to the Bonus 2 points. The interest is a rough pre-tax estimate.

Average balanceInterest at regular rate (92 days)Bonus 2 pointsPoints annualized
500,000 yenabout 500 yen1,000about 0.8%
1 million yenabout 1,000 yen3,000about 1.2%
3 million yenabout 3,000 yen10,000about 1.3%
10 million yenabout 10,000 yen30,000about 1.2%

The annualized figures assume your balance is exactly at each tier. If you only slightly exceed a tier, the figure becomes a little lower. Conversely, aiming just at the edge of a tier makes it more efficient.

What matters here is that these are limited-time points. They cannot be called equal in value to cash. It is also worth thinking about whether you can use them all before they expire.

Also, bonus rates and preferential rates for Rakuten Card users have separate conditions. This table is calculated with the regular rate only. Please check the official page for the actual rates.

How it differs from the standing 1,000 points

The standing “Rakuten Members Only! Open a Rakuten Bank Account & Deposit to Get 1,000 Points!” is announced as running all the time. The application window switches every month.

There are three conditions: applying through the dedicated page, depositing by the deadline, and registering for the Happy Program. There is no minimum deposit. This is a big difference from Bonus 1 of the 35,000 points, which requires a 60,000-yen lump-sum deposit.

The claim deadline is also set month by month. It is the last day of the month three months after the month you applied. For example, if you applied in April, you claim by July 31. The points expire on the last day of the month four months after the month you applied.

Point of comparison35,000 pointsStanding 1,000 points
ApplicationUntil October 30Monthly window
Deposit60,000 yen or more at onceNo minimum
Extra conditionsBonus on top for balance and card setupNone
ClaimJanuary to March 2027From about 1 day after meeting the conditions

Personally, I think the 35,000 points suit people who can deposit 60,000 yen at once and leave it for about three months. If you want to try with a small amount, the standing campaign is lighter on you. Also, the official page did not say whether you can receive both at the same time. If you are unsure, checking with the support desk is the safest.

If you already applied for the 25th anniversary or the 4,000 points

Even for campaigns that have closed, you need to complete a procedure to receive your points. Once the claim period passes, you can no longer get them. I recommend putting the following dates in your calendar.

CampaignClaim periodExpiry
25th anniversary (up to 7,000 points)17:00 on Nov 2, 2026 – 23:59 on Nov 30Dec 31, 2026
Super SALE tie-in (4,000 points)Dec 1 – Dec 31, 2026Jan 31, 2027

For the 25th anniversary, people who applied by August 31 were eligible. The conditions were a lump-sum deposit of 50,000 yen or more by September 30 and registration for the Happy Program. You log in to Rakuten Bank and press the claim button. Your use of eligible services as of September 30 decides whether you get 3,000, 5,000 or 7,000 points.

For the 4,000 points, the claim period starts in December. That is still a little way off, so it is easy to forget. The claim dates are based on what I wrote in an earlier article. Just to be safe, please also check the official page.

What you can aim for if you already have an account

If you already have an account, Bonus 1 and Bonus 2 of the 35,000 points do not apply to you. The condition is to open a “new” account through the dedicated button. People who opened an account for the August 25th anniversary seem to be treated the same way.

On the other hand, the 2,000 points of Bonus 3 are said to be open even to people with an existing account. The condition is to newly set Rakuten Bank as the payment account for your Rakuten Card. If you have ever used Rakuten Bank as a payment account, even once, you are not eligible.

To see whether this applies to you, it helps to recall your setting history in Rakuten e-NAVI. If you are unsure, you can check with the official support contact. Entry closes on October 30, so it is safer to move early.

The flow from application to claiming

Here is the flow if you are aiming for the 35,000 points, in order. The dates follow the official page.

  1. Apply through the account-opening button on the dedicated page (by 23:59 on October 30)
  2. Register for the Happy Program (Rakuten member link registration). It takes 2 to 3 days to take effect
  3. Deposit 60,000 yen or more in one go into the new account (by 23:59 on November 30)
  4. If you are aiming for Bonus 3, enter the campaign and set the payment account in Rakuten e-NAVI (by November 10)
  5. Make sure the card payment debited on the judgment dates (October 27 and November 27) is 40,000 yen or more
  6. Keep your ordinary deposit balance from November 1 to January 31
  7. From January 4, 2027, log in during the claim period and receive your points

Steps 4 and 5 need a little attention. The October 27 judgment date is already right around the corner. If the setup is not in time, the next judgment date, November 27, is the candidate. However, it is announced that if your charges on the first judgment date are under 40,000 yen, the next judgment date does not count.

Common mistakes and pitfalls

Here are the points that seemed easy to trip over while I was researching.

Warning

If you apply from anywhere other than the dedicated page, you will not be eligible. Be careful not to open the account from a search result or another button in the app.

If you split the deposit into two, you do not meet the 60,000-yen condition. It is judged by the amount of a single deposit, not the total.

If you cancel the Happy Program before the points are awarded, you will not be eligible. Not only registering but also leaving it in place is part of the condition.

Another is forgetting the claim step. For Bonus 1 and Bonus 2, you need to log in and press “Receive points.” Since the claim is almost three months away, it seems best to put it in your schedule.

Transfers made after 23:00 may be treated as next-day transactions. It may be safer to avoid depositing on the deadline day itself.

Who it suits and who it does not

On the other hand, people like the following should not expect too much.

FAQ

Q. When is the application deadline?

For the 35,000-point campaign, applications close at 23:59 on October 30, 2026. The deposit deadline is 23:59 on November 30, and the deadline to set the Bonus 3 payment account is November 10. Because there are three separate deadlines, it is safest to manage them separately.

Q. Can I split the 60,000 yen into several deposits?

If you split it, it does not qualify even when the total adds up. The condition is a single deposit of 60,000 yen or more. Transfers of salary, bonuses and dividends from other banks are included, but deposits from affiliate or cashback sites are announced as excluded.

Q. Which balance decides the average balance?

It is the average yen ordinary deposit balance from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027. Each day’s closing balance is added up and divided by the number of days. Money you deposit in October is not included, so it is easiest to have your balance ready before the judgment period starts.

Q. What happens if I already have an account?

Bonus 1 and Bonus 2 are for people who open a new account. What people with an existing account can aim for is the 2,000 points of Bonus 3. It requires entry, and people who have used Rakuten Bank as a payment account in the past are not eligible.

Q. Does an account I opened for the 25th anniversary count?

Bonus 1 and Bonus 2 are for “people who open a new account through this campaign.” People who opened an account for the 25th anniversary are considered not to meet this condition. Still, the detailed judgment is safest left to the official guidance. If you are unsure, please check with the support desk.

Q. What is the Happy Program?

It is a free program that links Rakuten Bank with your Rakuten membership. It takes 2 to 3 days for the registration to take effect. For the 35,000 points, you need to register by the end of November. If you cancel before the points are awarded, you will not be eligible.

Q. When can I use the points I receive?

It is announced that if you log in during the claim period and press the claim button, the points become usable within 1 to 3 days after that. Bonus 1 is available from January 4, 2027 and Bonus 2 from March 1. Since these are limited-time points, you also need to watch the expiry date.

Summary

The Rakuten Bank campaigns you can apply for right now narrow down to two: the “up to 35,000 points” campaign through October 30 and the standing “1,000 points” campaign.

The 35,000 points were designed so that only a limited number of people reach the maximum. As a guide, I think you can expect around 6,000 points at a 500,000-yen average balance and 8,000 points at 1 million yen.

Terms and periods may change. When you consider applying, please be sure to check the official website.
