Good morning, this is まさきん.

More and more people seem to be finding this post by searching for “Rakuten Janken.” My earlier post was only a short memo, so I’ve decided to lay out how the whole thing works from scratch.

*This information is current as of publication. Please check the official site for the latest conditions.

POINT
  • Rakuten Janken is a monthly campaign where you play rock-paper-scissors against Okaimono Panda in the Rakuten Pay app and elsewhere
  • The daily game is once per day, and no entry is required
  • Depending on your monthly win count, you can win gift cards worth up to 2,000 points in a prize draw
  • If you play every single day, you also enter a draw for 20,000 points
  • Meet the bonus conditions and you get up to 14 extra games next month

What is Rakuten Janken?

The official name is “毎日挑戦!ジャンケンチャレンジ” (Daily Challenge! Janken Challenge). It’s a Rakuten Pay and Rakuten Point Card campaign run by Rakuten Payment.

In searches, people mostly call it “Rakuten Janken” (楽天ジャンケン / 楽天じゃんけん). It’s the same campaign either way, so I’ll use both names in this post.

The mechanics are simple. You play janken (rock-paper-scissors) against Okaimono Panda and build up your wins over the month. Depending on your win count, you get entered into draws for Rakuten Point gift cards.

It appears to have started in October 2025 and has run every month since. Once you get the hang of it, you can join in the same way every month.

Where to play

The entry point is the campaign page in the Rakuten Pay app. According to the campaign, you can also open the campaign page in your smartphone browser and play from there.

Open the page and log in, and a START button appears. Tap it, then just pick rock, scissors, or paper.

The officially recommended environment is the Rakuten Pay app. It works in a browser too, but the app might make it easier to turn into a daily habit.

Runs from the 1st of every month

Each round starts at 10:00 on the 1st of the month and closes at 9:59 on the 1st of the following month.

However, the daily game can only be played until 23:59 on the last day of the month. I find it easiest to think of the remaining 10 hours or so before the close as time set aside for tallying.

One more thing to watch out for is the bonus challenge period. Most of the conditions close at 23:59 on the 15th of each month. If you only notice in the second half of the month, you may be too late for next month’s bonus.

ItemApproximate period
Whole campaign1st of the month 10:00 to 1st of next month 9:59
Daily game1st of the month 10:00 to last day of the month 23:59
Bonus challenge1st of the month 10:00 to the 15th 23:59

How many times you can play per day

The daily game is once per day. You can’t keep retrying to rack up wins.

On top of that, you get any “bonus games” earned from the previous month’s bonus challenge. Bonus games max out at 14.

So the monthly cap is roughly 30 daily games plus 14 bonus games. In a 30-day month, that works out to up to 44 games.

Win counts and prizes

Prizes are split into three tiers based on your monthly win count. Draws (ties) do not count as wins.

WinsPrizeWinners
2-9 winsGift card worth 100 points500 people
10-19 winsGift card worth 1,000 points400 people
20+ winsGift card worth 2,000 points50 people

Every tier is a draw among the people who meet the condition. Winning games does not guarantee a prize. You reportedly can’t win more than one prize.

The higher the tier, the bigger the points. On the other hand, the number of winners gets smaller.

A 20,000-point draw for perfect attendance

Separate from the win count, there’s one more prize draw. It’s for people who played the daily game every single day without missing one.

From among them, 20 people win a gift card worth 20,000 points. Wins and losses don’t matter; the condition is perfect attendance.

With so few winners, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Still, if it’s already part of your daily routine, you might end up qualifying without trying.

Using bonuses to get more games next month

The bonus challenge increases the number of games you can play next month. Conditions you meet this month are reflected in next month’s game count.

BonusConditionExtra games next month
Bonus 1Tap designated spots on the campaign pageUp to 8
Bonus 2Show the point card in the Rakuten Pay app and earn at least 1 point1
Bonus 3Pay 100 yen or more with Rakuten Pay code/QR payment1
Bonus 4Send or receive a total of 500 yen or more in Rakuten Pay balance1
Bonus 5Have an eligible Rakuten Mobile plan3

Bonus 1 just requires tapping banners on the page. Each one adds one game, up to a maximum of 8. It gives the most extra games for the least effort, so it’s probably the most efficient place to start.

Bonuses 2 and 3 are easy to hit if you already use Rakuten Pay for everyday shopping. Bonus 4, sending or receiving balance, suits people who use it for things like paying each other back within the family.

+3 bonus games with a Rakuten Mobile contract

Bonus 5 is for Rakuten Mobile subscribers. Eligible plans are the “Rakuten Saikyo Plan” and its data-only type, plus “Rakuten Saikyo U-NEXT.”

Eligibility is based on your contract status as of the 15th of each month. If you qualify, you get 3 extra games next month. That makes it the single bonus that adds the most games.

Our family has all its phones on Rakuten Mobile, so we meet this condition without any extra effort. Switching carriers just for janken would be putting the cart before the horse, but if you’re reviewing your phone bills anyway, it’s a nice little perk.

How many wins can you expect?

The win rate for the janken game hasn’t been published. So what follows is just my own rough estimate.

If we assume a win rate of one in three, 30 games would give you around 10 wins. That suggests you might reach the 10-19 win tier with the daily game alone.

If you get the full 14 bonus games, 44 games would give you around 15 wins. To aim for the 20+ tier, you’d probably need to stack up your bonuses and get a bit lucky too.

Games per monthExpected wins at a 1-in-3 rateLikely tier
30 (daily game only)About 1010-19 wins
37 (half the bonuses)About 1210-19 wins
44 (all bonuses)About 1510-19 wins, 20 with luck

This is simple math, so actual results will often differ. Please treat the numbers as a rough guide.

How to receive prizes, and things to watch out for

Winners are not announced separately; the shipment of the prize serves as the announcement. In other words, you won’t know you won until it arrives.

Gift cards are sent to the address registered in your Rakuten member information. If your address is out of date, you may not receive it.

Warning

Gift card points are not added until you complete the redemption yourself. Once the redemption period passes, you can no longer receive the points. The points are limited-time points, so it’s a good idea to check their expiry date too.

Who and which payments are excluded

First, Rakuten Group officers and employees are not eligible. I work for Rakuten Group myself, so I’m not eligible for prizes. Just like in my panda-hunt post, I’m on the side of explaining how it works this time too.

People who have cancelled their Rakuten membership are also excluded. The same goes for anyone who violates the terms or is judged to have acted fraudulently.

Some payment methods also don’t count toward the payment bonuses. Rakuten Pay invoice payments are not eligible. Rakuten Edy, Rakuten Card touch payments, and online Rakuten Pay payments are also reportedly excluded.

For the point card bonus, showing the card at FamilyMart does not count. It’s worth checking once whether the stores you usually use are eligible.

Common mistakes and pitfalls

The most common one is probably missing the bonus deadline. After the 15th, you can no longer earn bonuses for next month.

Next is breaking your perfect attendance streak by missing a single day. The 20,000-point draw requires playing every day. Trips and busy days are exactly when it’s easiest to forget.

The last is forgetting to redeem the prize. Even when the gift card arrives, it doesn’t turn into points until you complete the redemption. You’ll want to avoid opening the envelope and then tossing it in a drawer.

Who it suits, and who it doesn’t

It suits people who open the Rakuten Pay app regularly anyway. You can play while you’re paying, so it adds almost no extra effort.

It’s also a good fit for anyone who plays Rakuten Point mini-games as a daily habit. It’s just one more thing to add to your daily lottery and game routine.

On the other hand, if you don’t use Rakuten Pay, the bonuses are harder to earn. You can still enter the draws with the daily game alone, but it’s less efficient.

What to check before you start

Fitting it in with other daily games

Rakuten has quite a few daily lotteries and games. Chasing every one of them can get a little tiring.

I prioritize the ones that are self-contained within apps I already use. For Rakuten Pay users, janken is likely to be at the top of that list.

There are other campaigns featuring Okaimono Panda as well. In my secret mission post, I covered a campaign where you hunt for coins across multiple apps. I also keep an overview of different campaign types in my campaign info summary.

FAQ

Q. Do I need to enter Rakuten Janken?

No entry is required. Just log in as a Rakuten member and play from the campaign page.

Q. How many times can I play per day?

The daily game is once per day. If you completed the previous month’s bonus challenge, you can also use your separate bonus games. Bonus games max out at 14.

Q. Do draws (ties) count as wins?

Draws do not count toward your win total. Only games you actually win are counted.

Q. If I win games, am I guaranteed points?

No, it’s not guaranteed. For each win-count tier, winners are chosen by drawing from the people who meet the condition.

Q. How do I find out if I won?

Winners are not announced separately; the shipment of the prize serves as the announcement. The gift card is sent to the address registered in your Rakuten member information.

Q. What kind of points do I get?

They’re given as limited-time points. You need to redeem the gift card and use the points before they expire.

Q. By when do I need to complete the bonuses?

Most bonuses close at 23:59 on the 15th of each month. The Rakuten Mobile bonus is judged by your contract status as of the 15th.

Q. Is it worth joining partway through the month?

You can still enter the win-count draws partway through the month. However, the 20,000-point draw requires playing every day, so a month you join partway through likely won’t qualify.
